CAIRO: Seven people were killed Thursday in a fire that broke out in the Zeyout oil and diesel warehouse on Abdel Basset Al-Bahrawy Street in Basateen, Cairo, according to General Directorate for Civil Protection Deputy Gamal Halawa, Youm7 reported.
At least three of the victims were workers who died of smoke inhalation, and an elderly man, a woman and two girls were also killed under unclear circumstances.
According to different sources, the General Directorate for Civil Protection provided between eight and twelve fire trucks to control the fire, and Halawa said authorities are still waiting for the criminal lab to identify what started the blaze, and the extent of the damage it caused.
Civil protection forces were able to extinguish the flames, which were fueled by diesel and oil stored on the ground floor of the four-floor building.
The Basateen prosecution has demanded the fire victims be buried, according to Al-Dostor Al-Asly news website
