CAIRO: A transmission cable between Cairo and Alexandria has been cut, affecting the internet service in many places, a source in Telecom Egypt told Youm7 Tuesday.
Head of the National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NTRA) Hesham el-Alaily said the transmission cable caught on fire, affecting the internet service.
The cable is being fixed, he told Reuters Tuesday, without going into further details.
“Egypt needs an efficient backup system to offer service for users during such outages. But Telecom Egypt and the cell phone operators are not injecting good investments in the stand-by system,” Deputy Chairman of the Telecom Engineers Scientific Association Tallat Omar told The Cairo Post Tuesday.
