CAIRO: The Cairo Criminal Court in Tora renewed Tuesday the imprisonment of deputy head of Al-Wasat Party Essam Sultan for 45 days pending investigations over charges of inciting torture of civilians in Rabaa al-Adaweya Square sit-in following the ousting of former president Mohamed Morsi, Youm7 reported.

Sultan was arrested July 29, 2013 in his apartment in the neighborhood of Moqattam in Cairo for various charges including insulting the judiciary and the head of the Judges’ Club Ahmed al-Zind.

On May 17, the prosecution of Cairo Criminal Court accused Sultan of assaulting and insulting policemen assigned to guard the court and the deliberate wrecking of the court properties, Al-Wafd reported.
