CAIRO: As temperatures soar into the mid-40s Celsius ( 110-115 Fahrenheit),  a number of power stations may malfunction, a source at the Ministry of Electricity told Youm7 Wednesday.

Peak usage of air conditioners increases the fuel needs of power stations, and a number of stations are forced to implement rolling blackouts to reduce the load on the system, the source said.

The Egyptian Electric Utility and Consumer Protection Regulatory Authority announced Wednesday that the expected electricity deficit would reach 3,260 megawatt compared to 1,730 megawatt the day before, MENA reported.

Mohammed Al Yamani, Ministry of Electricity Spokesperson, encouraged Egyptians to ration their consumption as much as possible during the heat, and recommended they not set their air conditioners below 25 Celsius.
