With the greetings of Islam, I greet you all in this historical gathering. Peace be upon you.
I send all revelers of this global great event the same message carried by Islam to all people 15 centuries ago regardless of the time or the place. In this message, Islam stipulates all people are equal like the teeth of a comb, as no one is discriminated against except in the light of good deeds which benefit individuals and society. All people are sons and daughters from one father and one mother. All of them are from Adam and Adam came from dust. All people are brothers whether in faith or humanity, so Islam forbids injustice among the people and forbids them to oppress each other, whether as individuals or as nations.
Islamic civilization is a civilization of recognition and connection that can reach to other civilizations and exchange benefits and interests. Islam was the first that sought global diversity and multiplicity of all cultures.
Al-Azhar, which represents a religious authority for 1.5 billion Muslims all over the world, calls for you to spread peace, love and justice among all people in the East and the West. So, the West can understand the reality of the Islamic civilization and Muslims can understand the reality of the civilian West. If the people of the East and the West understand, all misunderstandings between them will be resolved and peace will replace strife.
Make this world sporting event an opportunity to spread peace and equality among the people, to transmit feelings of love and brotherhood, to get rid of injustice; evil and discrimination among humanity, to help the weak, the poor, the patient and the underprivileged. Our societies need such morals enhanced by good sportsmanship. The people will find this in all the divine messages and religions.
As I started my speech with peace, I conclude it with mercy. Blessings and peace be upon you. May God’s mercy and peace be with you.
