CAIRO: Security forces defused a homemade bomb Thursday evening placed near a church in Helwan, a security source told Youm7.

The source said that police officers and bomb disposal experts moved immediately to the scene. They found a white box with a homemade bomb inside it and bomb disposal experts managed to deactivate it immediately.

Security forces used explosives-detection devices to sweep the vicinity of the church for other bombs and closed all the streets leading to the church.

Following the ousting of President Mohamed Morsi on July 3, 2013 such attacks using explosive devices have been on the rise, mainly in the Sinai.
