CAIRO: El-Raml Misdemeanor Court in Alexandria adjourned to July 21 the trial of activist Mahienour El-Masry along with 10 of her codefendants over charges of breaking into el-Raml Police Station, Veto Gate reported.
Only four defendants attended the trial: Masry, lawyer Mohamed Mamdouh, reporter Youssef Shabaan and Hassan Ibrahim.
Seven codefendants were tried in absentia, including lawyer Mohamed Ramadan and poet Loai Qahwagy, who is serving two years in prison for breaking the 2013 Protest Law and participating in a protest for Khaled Said on Dec. 2, 2013.
On May 20, a court in Alexandria upheld a two-year jail sentence against Masry and fined her 50,000 EGP ($7,000) for protesting in December in solidarity with Khaled Said, whose brutal death in 2010 in state custody helped spark the 2011 January 25 Revolution. Masry was convicted of violating the infamous 2013 Protest Law.
