CAIRO: The Ministry of Housing began Tuesday investigating lands in different governorates to begin the third stage of a social housing project, Al-Ahram reported.
The project aims to build 1 million housing units for people with limited income, and Housing Minister Mostafa Madbouly said the General Organization for Physical Planning will also inspect the lands.
Madbouly said Tuesday that the ministry has four priorities: social housing program, connecting all cities and villages with sanitation services, executing national strategic plan for urban development and giving attention to community housing, reported Youm7.
Head of the housing sector in the ministry, Nafisa Hashem, said the third stage would create 50,000 housing units in various governorates, el-Badil reported Monday.
In March, First Undersecretary of the ministry, Hesham Darwich, told Al-Ahram that the second stage of the social housing project would be completed June 30 2015, and would include 77,000 units.
He added that the ministry formed several committees to follow up the project, executed by housing directorates all over the country.
New Urban Communities Authority said on its website that the “1 million units” project aims to present the housing units to youth and people with limited income, in five years.
The ministry started accepting reservation documents for the housing units, June 1, in three places, Sharqia, Menoufia and Asyut, for persons between 21 and 45 years old, reported VetoGate.
