CAIRO: Cairo Criminal Court adjourned to June 29 the trial of 12 suspects accused of sexual assault and harassment in Tahrir Square during inaugural celebrations of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, Youm7 reported.
Attorney General Hisham Barakat referred the suspects to Cairo Criminal Court on June 14.
The defendants also face charges of kidnapping, torture, and attempted rape and murder, for five separate cases over a 5-day period in Tahrir Square, from the June 3 announcement of the election results to the June 8 inauguration.
A video of a mob harassing and stripping a woman naked went viral on social networking website earlier this month and sparked public outrage. President Sisivisited the victim at the hospital, and called on You Tube to remove the video of the assault.
Former president Adly Mansour ratified a law stating thatsexual harassers shall face imprisonment of not less than one year and a fine of at least 3,000 EGP ($422.).
