CAIRO: Ain Shams University Faculty of Medicine will establish a new children’s hospital expected to serve a quarter million children yearly, according to the faculty’s Pediatrics Department head Mohsen el-Alfy.
He added in statements to Youm7 Friday that the new hospital will feature 14 different specialties, including hematology, neurology and oncology.
The hospital is expected to have a 60-room intensive care unit, 40 neo-natal intensive care bassinets and X-ray centers.
Alfy said the project is still 120 million EGP ($16.7 million) short of what it needs to be finished and said the hospital needs donations from the community.
He said the university is receiving donations at bank account number 800-800 at the National Bank of Egypt and that Dean of Faculty Ahmed Emad has undertaken fundraising efforts.
Also in the field of health care for children, the Free Egyptians Party Thursday released a statement saying that they launched a campaign in Alexandria to assist children with anemia.
The party said it will coordinate with the Ministry of Health to do blood tests on children to determine if they have anemia and ensure they receive treatment.
