CAIRO: Three alleged jihadists were killed Wednesday in North Sinai, a security source told Youm7.
The source added the security forces carried out an extensive security operation at the suspected hideouts in al-Thoma village south of North Sinai’s city of Sheikh Zuwayed, and that 10 others were arrested.
Security forces opened heavy fire on several suspected hideouts in al-Arish, the capital city of North Sinai governorate, Youm7 reported.
On Saturday, gunmen killed four central security conscripts near Rafah, security sources told MENA.
Since the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi on July 3, militants have staged repeated attacks on military and police sites, killing dozens of forces.
North Sinai in particular has been a hotbed of activity as well as security raids; the group Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, a militant Islamic organization, which has claimed responsibility for a number of terrorist attacks in the Sinai as well as in Cairo, is thought to its base in North Sinai.
