CAIRO: The Ministry of Finance has allocated 1 billion EGP ($139 million) in this year’s state budget for the next parliamentary election, Youm7 reported Friday.

The ministry said in a statement that the amount will cover wages for supervisors and employees in the elections.

The date of the elections is still not determined and it is expected that President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi will announce the election schedule in the coming days.

Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab said in May that the administrative and logistical cost of the recent presidential election reached 800 million EGP, according to al-Bawab News.

Former Minister of Finance Momtaz el-Saeed told Al-Masry Al-Youm in June 2012 that the cost of the presidential and parliamentary elections that year was more than 1.9 billion EGP.
