A popular campaign has been started by Amr Moussa supporters to call on the former chairman of the 50-member committee to run in the upcoming parliamentary election so he can be elected the head of the new legislative body.

The “Bi El Al Amr, Amr” or “Order Amr” campaign started by launching events in 10 governorates.

“We are asking you kindly to run in the coming parliamentary election, as we trust your wisdom and that you can lead in the next stage. We believe you can get rid of corruption and its influence left by the former regime,” the campaign said in a statement Saturday.

Wael Ahmed, the official spokesman of the campaign, said in a statement that many people were joining the campaign and volunteers had helped them distribute 250,000 pamphlets promoting it.

However, Moussa told Al-Shorouq Tuesday that he is unlikely to join any political alliance any time soon, but he will be always be open to communicating with any party or public figure. In previous statements, he also indicated he may actually start his own political alliance as opposed to joining a preexisting one.

“The formation of a strong parliament requires political work on the ground to put forward principles and commitments and to mobilize supporters,” he told Asharq Alawsat newspaper in an interview last June. “A lot of parties and political powers have asked me to join them in the next stage, but I’m busy myself forming an effective political alliance.”
