CAIRO: The National Council for Women praised the decision of Minister of Industry Mounir Fakhry Abdel Nour to appoint Nagwa Rashad as the new chairperson of the Egypt Expo and Convention Authority, Youm7 reported.
Rashad is the first woman to take this post since the authority was founded in 1956, and is also the first woman to head a major authority in Ministry of Industry.
The National Council for Women said Friday that this decision came to fulfill promises of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi that women will have their rights in all fields.
The council said this decision is like “returning a favor for women for their struggle over the last three years in Egypt’s history.”
The council held meetings on Monday and Tuesday with women who intend to run in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Secretary General of the Council Mona Omar said that the council would support these candidates and help them develop their skills to be able to run for office.
