CAIRO: Security bodies in Minya recovered 30 artifacts Saturday from three different ages and of different shapes and sizes through cooperation with tourism and antiquities investigation, Youm7 reported.

Minya Security Director Osama Metwally told Youm7 among the items recovered were 15 metal coins from the Islamic and Greco-Roman ages, three Pharaonic amulets, a scarab with hieroglyphics on it, three rings, two of which date back to the Islamic Age, a 15 centimeter statue of an animal and two copper cups which date back to the Islamic Age.

In an unrelated case, a police force in Wadi Gedidarrested five people Tuesday in possession of a sarcophagus that may be an original artifact, and 52 artifacts of different shapes and sizes and pieces of hashish, Youm7 reported.

Minister of Antiquities Mamdouh el-Damaty said that the seized artifacts unit, which is affiliated to the ministry, also foiled an attempt Wednesday to smuggle an old book dating back to 1864 outside Egypt though cooperation with customs authority in the airport, Al-Masry Al-Youm reported.
