GARBLT will build new roads throughout Egypt

CAIRO: Ministry of Planning allocated 4.5 billion EGP to the General Authority for Roads, Bridges, and Land Transport (GARBLT), Youm7 reported Tuesday.

This amount will be deployed to building new roads, based on the directions by President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, head of GARBLT Saad el-Gayoshi said in a phone interview with Mehwar Television Channel Monday.

Gayoshi said the first phase will start with Upper Egypt, specifically from the governorates of Minya and Qena.

Sisi met with Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab and ministers of Interior, Planning, Local Development, Housing, Transportation, and others on Monday to discuss the project.

They discussed in the meeting a plan to build future roads to be added to the current road network, to reaches a total of 24,000 kilometers, Akhbar El-Youm reported presidential spokesperson Ehab Badawy as saying.

He said Sisi pointed out the importance of building the new roads according to international standards at high quality and with minimum cost as fast as possible.

Badawy said the concerned authorities will follow the construction process and provide the necessary funding for the projects. The projects will be in coordination with the Ministries of Transport, Housings, and Defense.

The Ministry of Transport will establish in the first stage 13 roads with 1,188 kilometers, the Ministry of Housing will build 802 kilometers worth of long roads, and the Ministry of Defense will be responsible of executing 21 roads with 1,846 kilometers.
