CAIRO: American Secretary of State John Kerry said Tuesday that the reasons for the start of combat in Gaza should be tackled. He demanded Hamas to take responsibility for the death of civilians in Gaza, Youm7 reported.

This came in his speech during a press conference with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry in Ithadeya Palace.

Kerry said the United States is ready to provide Gaza with $47 million as humanitarian support. “We understand the complications of all matters” He added.

Kerry added that losing souls is heartbreaking. “We are seeking to convince the related bodies to ceasefire.”

Kerry said he has been contacting Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and other Palestinian officials the last few days. He welcomed the Egyptian efforts for ceasefire in Gaza and said that the Egyptian initiative is in the frame of halting violence in Gaza.

Additionally, Kerry said that his country supports Israel’s right in defending itself as a state and responding to Hamas’s attacks, Shorouq reported.

Kerry added that Hamas has been launching missiles on Israeli neighborhoods for two weeks and is using the complex tunnel network to kidnap and kill Israeli citizens.

Kerry added that the people stuck in this crisis are innocent civilians, hundreds of whom lost their lives in this conflict.
