CAIRO: A police officer shot himself in his leg on Sunday in the Fifth Settlement to become famous and honored by Minister of Interior Mohamed Ibrahim, Al-Masry Al-Youm reported Thursday.

According to the final investigations, Major Mohamed I. in the Traffic Administration shot himself in his foot and thigh when there was no assassination attempt.

Initial investigations indicated that two anonymous people riding a motorcycle tried to assassinate Mohamed I. by opening fire at him and shot him with three bullets in his foot and thigh.

Surveillance cameras in the area of his work however revealed that there were no motorcycles and no clashes between him and anyone, contradicting his testimony in the initial investigations.

It has then been proven that the three bullets were shot from his gun. Faced with the camera video footage, Mohamed confessed that he feigned this story to become famous and be honored by the Minister of Interior.

On April 29, 2013, Ibrahim had honored 87 families of the killed police officers and 48 of the injured police officers at the ministry headquarters in Abbassya, Al-Watan reported.

Ibrahim had honored the injured police officers and the mothers of the “martyrs” on Mother’s Day in Ismailia on March 22, according to the ministry’s official page.
