CAIRO: The Misr Al-Qawia Party will face future political divisions due to the need to choose a new successor for its current head Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh in the run-up to coming parliamentary elections, party spokesman Ahmed Emam told The Cairo Post Friday.
Emam said the party will organize a general conference to discuss the party’s future—including elections—and whether Aboul Fotouh will remain in power or be succeeded.
Emam told The Cairo Post that the decision on Aboul Fotouh will come after normal deliberations between party members from all governorates and Aboul Fotouh, and internal divisions are expected.
Youm7 reported Friday that Fotouh will not run in the upcoming party elections slated for next September and that he is considering quitting politics.
“We are talking all the time about the party’s future, but up until now, no formal decisions have been made concerning Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh or any other candidate to take the leadership,” Emam said.
