CAIRO: A 9-year-old girl was killed and a 10-year-old girl was injured after a rocket hit their house in Sheikh Zuwayed, North Sinai, Youm7 reported Monday evening.
According to eyewitnesses, two other people were reportedly injured in the explosion. Medical sources told Youm7 that the 10-year-old was transferred to Arish hospital.
Official sources have not yet confirmed the number of dead and injured people, nor any further details. It remains unknown where the rocket came from.
Sheikh Zuwayed is located near the city of Arish, nearly 50 kilometers from Rafah on the Gaza border, where it was reported a while before this incident that armed men had attacked the house of a local tribal chief, according to Youm7 quoting eyewitnesses.
Both cities have been under threat during the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict since July 8, including a number of rockets fired from the Gaza Strip.
On July 26, four people were killed and six others—including children—were injured in a mortar attack of unidentified origin in Rafah.
