CAIRO: A new DHL facility bringing a 400 million EGP investment from the international shipping company opened Monday in the Goods Village at the Cairo International Airport. The ministers of Civil Aviation and Telecommunication inaugurated the facility, according to a Monday press statement from DHL.
DHL Express Egypt was established with a 400 million EGP (U.S. $56 million) investment, and the facility is equipped with modern technology for screening and distributing cargo.
The new facility’s Package Carousel reportedly has the ability to weigh, measure and photograph more than 60,000 daily shipments at a rate of about 2,500 per hour.
Minister of Civil Aviation Hossam Kamal said such centers boost new freight projects, develop the air freight system and improve transportation services and logistics.
Kamal revealed that the coming period will witness the inauguration of an “airport city,” which will include a large shipping area for planes and a free trade zone which will increase Cairo’s shipping and logistics abilities.
Mahmoud Essmatt, head of the Egyptian Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation, announced Monday that the company has embarked on establishing the “airport city” at the Cairo International Airport with total value of up to 70 billion EGP, Al Manar news gate reported.
The project is expected to provide around 12,000 job opportunities, he added.
