CAIRO: South Cairo Criminal Court sentenced Thursday two defendants to life in prison over charges of mob sexual harassment in Tahrir Square while another one was sentenced to 20 years in prison, Youm7 reported.
On July 16, South Cairo Criminal Court had sentenced seven defendants to life imprisonment and another two to 20 years in prison over the same charges. Three of the defendants were also fined 10,000 EGP (U.S. $1,400).
During the celebrations of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi’s inauguration early June, Tahrir Square witnessed several harassment incidents. The defendants were charged with harassment, kidnapping, stealing and indecent assault.
The total number of harassment cases considered before the court was five with 12 defendants facing the same charges.
