CAIRO: Recurring sexual abuse in a rescue home for children has been reported by the Justice Organization for Development and Human Rights (JODHR) in a report relying on leaked documents from the Rescue Childhood Association, Youm7 reported Friday.
No psychologists or social workers in the association follow on cases, even though the management of social affairs in Ain Shams supervises the association and relies on business donations, the leaked documents imply, Youm7 reported.
All reports sent to the association manager by the children’s supervisors were ignored, the report said. According to the leaked reports scanned and available on Youm7, the reports showed four security men in the association who repeatedly assaulted and abused the children.
“Three cases of homosexuality and sexual abuse were reported to the manager but no action was taken to rehabilitate the children,” the report read.
The association includes a rehabilitation program for orphaned children, which is supervised by the Ministry of Education. It includes 143 children ranging at different ages; 85 children in elementary school, 33 in the primary school, and 25 in high school.
Head of the Central Department of Social Solidarity at the ministry Aziza Ammar said the report was immediately sent to the association to investigate the leaked documents reported in the media, Sada El-Balad news reported. The ministry will follow up on all details and published records.
Solidarity Directorate in Giza Governorate ordered to form a technical committee through the Ministry of Solidarity. The acting manager of the solidarity directorate in Giza Ayda Abdel Monem said the committee consists of specialists and already started its work Thursday, Youm7 reported.
The committee will review and study the situation of 72 orphanages under the supervision of Civil Society NGOs after the crises of Mecca Orphanage that caused outrage through social media and newspapers last week.
Security forces raided an orphanage in the Haram neighborhood in Giza on Sunday following a video on social media showing a man beating children, which activists condemned while and accused the orphanage director of child abuse.
