CAIRO: Attempted bombings at two electrical towers in Giza and Alexandria governorates were foiled Monday by security forces, reported Youm7.
Security agencies at Giza security directorate received a notification of the presence of suspicious object under one of the electrical towers in Kerdasa district. The bomb was defused.
In Alexandria, security forces also managed to diffuse three butane cylinders connected to an electrical power in Montaza area, reported Youm7.
Explosions to electrical powers are not new; during the month of Ramadan, there were six bombs. The explosions led to a total loss of around 223 million EGP ($31 million USD,) Electricity Holding Company head Gaber Desouki stated July 27.
Egyptians frequently experience extensive power outages during summer months, usually a few times a day for an hour or more. Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker announced a decision to increase the price of electricity in July, sparking negative reactions from the citizens.
