CAIRO: The Salafist Nour Party will hold Tuesday a number of extensive meetings to complete the party’s preparation for the coming parliamentary election, and members say it plans to issue its candidate list by the end of August.
Salah Abd el-Maabod, member of the High Authority of the party, told The Cairo Post its central committee will hold its first meeting Tuesday to discuss the latest developments in electoral votes in governorates and support them in choosing candidates.
Sayed Khalifa, the Deputy Head of Nour Party, told Youm7 he expected “the list to be ready the middle of the month.”
Although the law of dividing governorates into districts has not yet been issued, Nour party spokesperson Nader Bakar previously told The Cairo Post that “the law will affect the party’s decision on the elections, adding that “the postponement of the law until now will probably cause a delay.”
Abd el-Mabod said that the party will keep going on the process of selection of candidates, according to the rules and standards set by the party in advance.
Khalifa mentioned that the meeting will discuss a plan of action to visit provinces to review candidate names and “make sure that all candidates are up to the standards set by the party.”
Abd el-Mabod said candidates must have a good relation with the people of his district, adding that the the party doesn’t have money to spend on campaigns.
“The party has received suggestions from several parties to form an alliance for the election, which we are studying,” Abdel-Mabod added.
