CAIRO: The Egyptian Army has announced Wednesday killing two militants in an exchange of fire with security forces in North Sinai.
Military spokesperson Mohamed Samir added in a Facebook statement that about 37 wanted outlaws were arrested in a security crackdown targeting “terrorists’ spots” in North Sinai, Ismailia, El-Dakahleya and Sharqia.
Egyptian security forces had intensified their security operations in Sinai to curb the “terrorism” that broke out mainly in North Sinai targeting the police and the army since the ouster of former Islamist president Mohamed Morsi.
Samir intermittently issues statements announcing the army’s efforts in tightening the security grip.
Samir added that four trucks were seized and 12 motorbikes without plates that were used in “terrorist” operations were destroyed, in addition to destroying four tunnels found in Rafah.
