CAIRO: The Egyptian army has announced Friday killing a “terrorist” and arresting 16 wanted outlaws in a security crackdown in North Sinai.
The Egyptian army is currently carrying out extensive operations in North Sinai to curb jihadists who committed bombings and are targeting police and army personnel.
Since Islamist President Mohmed Morsi was removed by the army on July 3, the “terrorist” operations against the police and the army have been escalated.
Military spokesperson Mohamed Samir added in a Facebook statement that military forces in coordination with the Armed Forces’ Engineering Authority destroyed five smuggling tunnels to make the total number of tunnels which destroyed so far to 1701 tunnels.
Samir added that they seized and destroyed a car as well as seven motorbikes without license plates used in “terrorist” operations against the military.
