CAIRO: Ten Egyptian soldiers and a military officer were killed and two others injured Tuesday when a bomb targeted their armed vehicle in Rafah, North Sinai, Youm7 reported.

The injured were transported to Arish Military Hospital and security forces closed roads in Arish, Sheikh Zuwayed and Rafah, security sources told Youm7.

The armed vehicle was combing the area on the Sheikh Zuwayed-Rafah road and a landmine detonated near the vehicle, according to the security media office in Rafah. However, Reuters reported that two of the soldiers were killed in a roadside bomb and the others  shot dead when they were trying to flee.

In related news, unknown gunmen fired a rocket at a security forces camp north of Sheikh Zuwayed Aug. 29 without causing any damage, according to eyewitnesses and informed sources.
