CAIRO: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi was invited to visit Germany by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, according to a statement from the Egyptian Presidential office.
In a phone conversation the talks tackled bilateral relations, as well as the economy. Merkel praised the Egyptian efforts in reaching a long-term cease-fire agreement between Israel and Palestine to put an end to their 51-day conflict, the statement added.
If Sisi accepts, the visit would be the first to Germany for Sisi since his inauguration June 8.
Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry visited Germany on Sept. 2 amid a three-day European tour including France and Italy to discuss Egyptian relations.
