CAIRO: Beheira coast guards Friday arrested four fishing boats fleeing the security vacuum in Libya, Veto Gate news website reported.

The boats were carrying five Egyptians who claimed they were returning back from Libya. They told investigative authorities at the Rashid border station they were working on the boats in Libya and they escaped “to save their lives.”

Thousands of Egyptians have fled ongoing violence in Libya over the last few months after flights were halted between both countries following rounds of fighting between rival militias launched in Tripoli. Algeria recently opened its border with Libya to allow Egyptian nationals to flee the violence.

On July 30, 170 Egyptians were detained while crossing the border south of the Sallum border crossing while illegally coming back from Libya.
