CAIRO: Eleven fugitives were arrested after they escaped from Mahalla police station Friday, Gharbia Security Director Osama Bedair told state-owned MENA Saturday.
The deputy head of the station and two officers were suspended and referred to an investigation after 16 detainees broke out of the station’s cell, reported Youm7.
A team of prosecutors inspected the station Friday, and then Minister of Interior Mohamed Ibrahim issued the suspension.
An officer opened the cell on his own to remove the garbage, which allowed the detained to riot and escape, by throwing hot water at the faces of the guards, Youm7 reported.
Detainees at police stations are on-remand suspects who have yet to be referred to trial.
