CAIRO: A major leader of Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis (ABM) was killed Friday in North Sinai by military forces, along with 21 “terrorists” in the governorate from Oct. 3-9, military spokesperson Mohamed Samir said Friday.
Shehta el-Ma’atqa, the alleged ABM leader, was implicated in attacks against the military and police and was the ABM “Emir” in the Sadat and Wefeq areas in Rafah, according to Samir’s Facebook post.
Samir posted a picture of Ma’atqa’s dead body, which shows a bearded man who appears to have been shot twice in the chest.
The 21 “terrorists” were killed as they fired at security forces during raids.
Hundreds of people in North Sinai have been killed in military and police raids for their alleged involvement in terrorism. This is in addition to the destruction of dozens of homes that have been demolished for allegedly being “hubs for terrorists.”
