CAIRO: A 19-year-old was arrested Monday for allegedly throwing a container or bag of urine at Zamalek Football Club head Mortada Mansour outside the club Sunday, Youm7 reported.

Ultras White Knights (UWK,) a hard-line Zamalek football fan group, released a video of the attack Sunday, in which a hooded person is shown walking after Mansour and then slaps him in the back of the neck. Then another person, whose face is blurred, throws a yellow liquid over him and the two assailants run away.

On its Facbeook page, UWK called Mansour the “dog of the regime,” and dedicated the video to the Egyptian people.

The prosecution identified the arrested teenager as Mohamed Ayman, a student at the University of Helwan Faculty of Commerce, and quoted him as saying he wanted to “insult” Mansour, and “not to beat or kill him,” Youm7 reported. Hitting someone on the nape is culturally very insulting in Egypt, and as in most places, so is dousing someone with urine.

Ayman said that Sayyed Mushagheb (aka Sayyed Rowdy), allegedly a UWK leader, incited him to perpetrate the attack because some UWK members had been detained on charges of attempting to assassinate Mansour, according to Youm7.

On Aug. 17, a group of men fired pellets at Mansour while he left the football club, injuring three people in his entourage, Al-Masry Al-Youm reported. Seven people have been detained for allegedly conducting the attack.

Mansour has a long-standing conflict with UWK. He has filed three lawsuits against the group, one of which demands its dissolution.
