CAIRO: An armored security convoy was damaged in North Sinai south of Arish in a militant attack Sunday, killing at least five soldiers and injuring five others, Youm7 reported.
Unnamed sources told Youm7 that there were two security vehicles targeted with remote detonated bombs. The sources added that the injured were transferred to a hospital in Arish, and security forces cordoned off the blast location and all the roads leading to it.
Last Friday, another blast took place, and three policemen were killed in North Sinai, according to Youm7. A suspect charged with killing the policemen was arrested in a follow-up military operation.
Recent military operations have claimed to have killed or arrested major militants in Sinai, including Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis leaders Walid Waked—captured last Friday—and Shehta el-Ma’atqa, killed on Oct. 10.
