CAIRO: A police conscript was killed and an officer injured in an armed attack on their car Wednesday morning in Minya, Youm7 reported.
Security officials in Minya told Youm7 a small truck kept its speed as it approached a security checkpoint, then the driver turned and tried to escape as policemen chased him. Unidentified gunmen in the car fired random shots at the police car.
Targeting policemen increased in Egypt since the ouster of Mohamed Morsi in July 2013. On rare occasions, attackers have been identified but in most cases of police and military killings, authorities revealed little details.
However, security officials arresting different groups accused of forming terrorist cells sometimes identify members involved in killings, such the case of Adel Habbara and his accomplices in the killings of 25 soldiers known as the second Rafah massacre in 2013.
