CAIRO: At least 17 people were killed and 21 injured in an explosion that took place Friday afternoon at a military installation in the city of Sheikh Zuwayed, North Sinai, Sky News Arabia reported.
Officials have not yet confirmed the death toll or other details of the attack, but early information suggests the explosion resulted from a car bomb blast targeting a security checkpoint.
A Youm7 reporter in North Sinai said there were two attacks, one in Karam Qowadis in Sheikh Zuwayed, and another in the Arish neighborhood of Kherruba. Gunfights are still ongoing between the army and militants in Arish, Youm7 reported.
