CAIRO: The opening of the 36th Cairo International Film Festival was held Sunday at the Saladin Citadel of Cairo. The festival will last until Nov. 18.
Director Fatih Akin’s Armenian genocide drama “The Cut” will be the opening film of the festival, and screened Monday at the Main Hall of the Cairo Opera House.
Other films will be screened in the opera’s Main Hall, Small Hall, El-Hanager Theater and Creativity Cinema.
Monday’s featured films are: “Like a Matchstick” by Houssein el-Imam (Egypt), “Theeb” and “Eyes of a Thief” by Naji Abu Nawar (Jordan), “Songs from the North” by Soon-Mi Yoo (Portugal) and “Dancing with Maria” by Ivan Gergolet (Italy).
Tickets will be sold at the Cairo Opera House everyday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. for 20 EGP ($2.80). There is a 50 percent discount for students.
