CAIRO: The 7th Panorama of the European Film festival will take place in Cairo from Nov. 19-29, and feature 38 European films from 25 countries.
The lineup was announced at a press conference on Nov. 5 attended by deputy EU Delegation head Reinhold Brender, and members from the Goethe, French and Italian Institutes in Cairo.
The festival has chosen the Zawya independent cinema as the main venue for the film screenings, in addition to Manial Galaxy Cinema. Also Panorama founder Marianne Khoury announced that special morning screenings at Stars Cinema at City Stars Mall and Plaza Cinema in Sheikh Zayed have been arranged for students as part of a “Cinema and Education” program.
The festival will also celebrate the work of world-renowned German director Wim Wenders. The feature films selected for the Panorama feature award-winning selections with a special emphasis on Swiss documentaries in an effort to encourage Swiss filmmaking and attract its directors to attend the Panorama.
Also aimed at promoting film exchange and promoting Egyptian films to a European audience, the festival will feature a “Carte Blanche” section, which consists of three European film selections by Egyptian filmmakers Yousry Nasrallah, Nadine Khan and Ahmad Abdallah. Their selections are respectively: “The 400 Blows” (France), “Gertrud” (Denmark) and “The Turin Horse” (Hungary).
Time: Nov. 19-29, screenings daily at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
