CAIRO: Egypt’s Minister of Defense General Abdel Fatah al-Sisi attended the funeral of Nabil Farag, assistant security director of the Giza governorate, on Friday, despite warnings from national security bodies.
Farag was killed during the security campaign launched on the Kerdasa village in mid-September.
Sources told Youm7 that many officials urged Sisi not to attend the funeral, saying there would be an increased risk of being targeted by militants.
September witnessed an escalation in attacks against government officials as well as army personnel; early in the month there was an assassination attempt against Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim.
Furthermore, according to the sources Sisi wanted to make clear that the armed forces would resume their war against terrorism all over the country regardless of the consequences and sacrifices.
