CAIRO: A police major was arrested Wednesday after he was caught selling heroin to a citizen; both were sent to four days detention pending investigations over drug trafficking charges.

Al-Watan reported through security sources that both Major Ahmed Saad and driver Mohamed Mohsen were found quarreling next to a car at 10 p.m. Wednesday in Heliopolis, which drew security forces’ attention to them. One of the two failed to escape; the officers inspected the car and found heroin as well as some 600 EGP ($83), and drugs on the persons of the two men.

The case has been referred to the prosecution by the minister of interior, Al-Watan reported.

“We will not cover any corrupt and a tough punishment is waiting for the [accused] officer if he was proved to be involved in heroin trafficking,” Cairo Security Director Ali el-Demerdash told the Al-Hayah television show.
