CAIRO: The legislation Committee of the State Council, headed by Judge Magdy Agaty,  approved Monday the draft of the Election Constituency Law for the coming parliamentary elections with few amendments, Youm7 reported.

The committee increased the number of the constituencies from 232 to 238 districts, as it was recommended from the State Council.

The draft will be referred by the High Elections Commission (HEC) to the President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi for approval, said the Prime Minister advisor for election affairs Refaat al-Qumsan told Youm7.

On Dec. 10, the Cabinet approved law although many political parties and electoral coalitions responded negatively to it, saying the elections would be “hard competition.”

The law determines the number of candidates chosen from each constituency, from between one to three, proportionate to the population.
