CAIRO: An orphanage in New Cairo was shut down Tuesday evidence of children being tortured surfaced, Youm7 reported.

The Minister of Social Solidarity Ghada Wali ordered the closing of the orphanage, whose owner was using the children’s names to buy lands, and enforcing them to work on his farm.

Wali also ordered that the 10 children be sent to the Cairo-based Hope Village Society , adding that they will be enrolled in schools and be provided with all necessary services.

The owner of the home Khaled Rabeh also allegedly used donation money to buy lands and a farm in Wadi al-Natroun in the Delta governate of Beheira, according to the investigation conducted by the ministry.

The children were allegedly beaten and sometimes deprived from food and drink.

In October, an employee of an orphanage in Ismailia governorate called the police for violations committed against the female orphans who were sexually abused by a supervisor.

In Haram district of Giza, the security forces stormed in August another orphanage where the manager was beating and torturing the children after his wife uploaded a video featuring him while he was beating them.
