Egyptian plane detained in Malmö after Syrians on board requested asylum

CAIRO: An Egyptian plane, boarded by ten Syrian citizens with forged entry visas to Sweden, was stopped at Malmö Airport after arriving from Beirut Wednesday, DPA reported

The plane’s two Egyptian pilots were detained, as well as the Syrian nationals who requested asylum once they arrived in Malmö.

The Egyptian Civil Aviation and Foreign Ministries have begun communicating with the Swedish authorities, the Egyptian captain, and the Lebanese authorities to find out how the Syrian passengers departed Beirut without having their documents scanned.

The plane is one of the 10 Cessna Citation aircrafts, which only operates charter flights. It is owned by Smart Aviation, a joint-stock company operating under the umbrella of the Egyptian Ministry of Aviation.
