CAIRO: Dozens protested in the Delta governorate of Kafr el-Sheikh after a security aide reportedly shot a local by mistake, Youm7 reported Thursday.

The four-hour protest was staged in front of the general prosecution’s headquarters in Qallin city, in ther northern part of Kafr el-Sheikh. The locals called on the prosecutor to open immediate investigations.

Ahmed Salah Abd Al-Krim was reportedly shot dead in his car in a checkpoint installed by security forces, who were searching for a fugitive with a car similar to Abd Al-Krim’s, according to Youm7.

A security source told Youm7 that security personnel shot the driver because he ran away when he saw them heading to his car.

A number of senior security figures in the governorate rushed to the prosecution general headquarters to calm down the protestors and have promised them a comprehensive investigation on the incident, the source added.

Abd Al-Krim was escorted to the university hospital in Tanta for treatment shortly after he was shot.
