CAIRO: In a step to protect oil and natural gas pipelines, the government amended a new law with harsher punishment including life sentence for anyone convicted in damaging oil facilities, Youm7 reported Thursday.
The law was approved during the cabinet’s meeting Thursday.
Youm7 explained that the new amended law aims to protect these facilities, against the repeated terrorist attacks on the pipelines, as it represents a vital source of power and investment.
The law also includes an average fine of 10,000 EGP ($1,500) depending on the damage caused.
Last Oct. the oil pipeline in North Sinai capital city of Arish exploded for the 26th time since the January 25 Revolution, according to Youm7.
