CAIRO: Cairo International Airport was closed to incoming air traffic Friday morning due to dense fog that greatly reduced visibility, airport officials told Aswat Masriya.
As a result of the closure, 11 planes changed their courses and landed at other airports, among them Alexandria and Sharm el-Sheikh. Many aircraft were still able to depart Cairo however, and planes to Paris and London left on time.
The fog affected road traffic as well.
Friday morning Youm7 reported that the General Traffic Directorate closed both Alexandria and Suez roads because of the dense fog.
Col. Alaa Abdel Rafea said in a statement reported by Youm7 that the roads were closed in anticipation of any traffic accidents, and will not be opened until the fog lifts.
