CAIRO: Five workers died and 28 were injured after they fell off scaffolding while working at a cement factory in Arish, North Sinai, Ministry of Health spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar told The Cairo Post Saturday.
The workers were conducting construction work inside the cement factory, which is owned by the armed forces.
Survivors told Youm7 that the accident was caused by a cement silo collapsing and falling on top of the scaffolding.
Youm7 reported Saturday that 15 ambulances responded to the accident site to immediately transfer the injured to hospitals for treatment. The head of the Central Department for Urgent Care at the Health Ministry, Khaled el-Khateeb, told Youm7 that 20 of the injured were transferred to Arish General Hospital, and eight were received by the Arish Military Hospital.
Hundreds of residents of Arish gathered to donate their blood for the injured, while some pharmacists donated medicine.
