CAIRO: The High Elections Commission (HEC) asked the Ministry of Finance to give payment to the first batch of the 1.6 billion EGP ($223.7 million) budget allocated to the parliamentary elections, scheduled to be held in March, judicial sources told Youm7 Tuesday.

The budget will be spent on the honorarium, accommodation, and security measures for judges and prosecutors who will supervise every polling station across the country.

Other administrative expenses, such as printing ballots and electoral guidelines for voters and payments for employees in the electoral process, are also included in the budget.

Elections and referendums that have been carried out in Egypt since the January 25 Revolution in 2011 have cost around 5.3 billion EGP ($741.03 million,) according to Youm7.
