CAIRO: Zaqaziq Criminal Court has sentenced 24 Muslim Brotherhood members, 19 of whom are runaways, to life imprisonment Tuesday for torching police station in Delta governorate of Sharqia, Youm7 reported.

One defendant was sentenced to five years in absentia while 15 others were acquitted in the same case.

The defendants were accused of attacking and setting fire to the police station, torching police vehicles, stealing weapons from the station and helping prisoners to escape.

On Aug. 14, 2013, dozens of police stations and public facilities across the country were raided after the police killed hundreds of protesters during the dispersal of two Brotherhood sit-ins at Rabaa al-Adaweya and Nahda Square in August 2013.
