CAIRO: Owner of a plastics factory in the Delta governorate of Sharqia was arrested Friday after large amounts of explosive materials were seized inside the factory, Youm7 reported.

Locals reported that they heard an explosion on Belbais highway in Sharqia, and after finding no explosives in the area, the police raided the factory to find three tons of newly made explosives, according to Youm7.

Preliminary investigations revealed that, while a group of extremists were manufacturing explosives in the factory to bomb water plants and power transformers, a bomb detonated and they fled the scene before the police arrived.

Atef al-Shaer, head of Sharqia security investigation dept. told Youm7 that the explosives are similar to those that have been used in targeting railways, electrical towers, gas station in Belbais in the past months.
